Latest News on Android 3.1 Tablets and UK Release

Android 3.1 Tablets UK - Xoom
The latest iteration of Google's tablet-orientated operating system is Android 3.1, an upgrade to the Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) platform.
This has a number of performance improvements over the Android 3.0 version. Android 3.1 improves on many of the new features that had come into the 3.0 edition.

This includes a refined UI from being able to customize the widget sizes on the home screen to having an expanded Recent Apps list.

Both of these aim to make the Android 3 devices easier in terms of navigation and in being more intuitive to how Android tablet PC is used.

Another key improvement with Android 3.1 vs Andriod 3.0 is the support for an increased variety of USB input devices, such as keyboards, gaming devices etc without the need for additional configuration or drivers, as you'd have with a traditional PC.

There is also a Wi-Fi performance improvement in this iteration, where you can lock your Wi-Fi. Enabling the option to have an uninterrupted connection, useful when streaming movies or music even when the Android tablet is idle.

The Android 3.1 version also has many tweaks to improve the general  performance of the standard apps such as the browser, gallery, calendar and email apps.

The first tablet PC released in the UK to use the Android 3.0, the Motorola Xoom has only just come out here. Whilst the Motorola Xoom with 3.1 has already been released to the US this week. As yet no specific date has been given for the UK release date for the Xoom tablets using the Android v3.1. Google only indicates an expectation to roll this out to other countries over the summer.

So for now the latest Android tablets available in the UK is the Motorola Xoom with Android 3.0, either with Wi-Fi only or with Wi-Fi+3G - with a UK release date 22 May 2011. For more details: Amazon UK Motorola Xoom 10" Android 3.0 TabletAmazon UK Motorola Xoom 10inch Android 3.0 Tablet
